Kasargod: The Kasargod police nabbed the main accused in the Kudlu Bank robbery case on Thursday.
Shareef (42) from Kalpare in Bandyodu was arrested is from Karwar in Uttara Kannada and brought him to Kasargod on Thursday.
Addressing the reporters on Superintendent of Police Srinivas said that police have recovered from Sharief 10 kgs of gold while the stolen cash is yet to be confiscated.
Sharief had hidden all the stolen gold in 416 packs and buried it under a coconut tree at his residence.
The SP said that Sharief had left to Mangaluru after the theft and then to Kochi. Here he took a flight to Mumbai two days ago and then came down to Karwar.
Though there were rumours that Sharief had fled the country, he was nabbed in Karwar.
It may be recalled that the police had earlier arrested Mashook (25) from Bengaluru and Shabir (42) from Goa in connection to the case. The police are on a look out for the remaining three who were directly involved in the theft.
On September 7, five masked men had entered the Kudlu Service Cooperative Bank at Eriyal and decamped with 21 kg of gold and Rs 13 lac in cash after threatening customers and the staff in the bank.
