Kundapur : In a major case of burglary, thieves who broke into as many as eight shops including jewellery making shops at the Popular building in the heart of Kundapur in the early hours of August 20, Tuesday have decamped with cash and jewels worth several lakhs of rupees.
The thieves gained entry by breaking open the locks of the main entrance of the building. The CCTV I camera in one of the shops named Vishwashree Gems and Jewellers have captured two of the thieves at work at around 4.15 am. If one of them was a youth another was a middle aged man. This footage may help the cops in investigating the case.
They broke open five jewellery making shops, a herbal medicine shop and another newspaper office.
The theft took place in the five jewellery manufacturing shops on the second and third floors, owned by Harish Nayak. Even the shop owned by Guruprasad Shet, another machine cutting shop of Naveen were also burgled. The CCTV footage was available from the Vishwashree Gems and Jewelers.
It is surprising that none of the neighbours heard any sound of thieves breaking in though there were a number of houses around.
Finger print experts and dog squad are at the spot. Kundapur DySP Yashoda and other senior police officials are investigating.
