Mangalore : Gold and cash worth over Rs 4.9 lakh were stolen from a house at Kadike in Padupanambur village near Mulki in the wee hours of March 15, Friday.
The house belonged to one Rajkumar, a teacher in Talapady Government High School. The thieves had broke open the almirah after finding the keys hidden beneath the cot and stole jewellery weighing 16 sovereigns. The stolen jewels include a chains, necklace, bangles and ear rings.
The family was watching TV till midnight before retiring to bed. The theft came to light only in the morning. The suspicion is that the thieves might have used some chemical substance to see that the occupants of the house did not wake up.
Mulki police rushed to the spot and are conducting investigations. Finger print experts and dog squad have been pressed into service.
