New Delhi : Prahlad Joshi BJP Lok Sabha member from Dharwad on Wednesday asked the Centre to amend the Constitution to make mother tongue as medium of instruction in primary education.
He also suggested that the government should convene the chief ministers’ meet on the issue.
Speaking at his BJP Lok Sabha constituency on the motion of thanks to the President, Joshi said the recent apex court order quashing the state’s decision to make Kannada the compulsory medium of instruction in the State’s primary schools, was a huge setback for regional languages.
Terming that the apex court judgement will have all-India repercussions, Joshi said the government must take steps to have a nation-wide policy on the issue of primary education to be imparted in mother tongue and regional languages only.
Urging the Centre to extend all help to drought-hit areas in Karnataka, he said the State has the second highest number of drought-prone areas in the country and there is urgent need to provide permanent solutions for the problems.
