Mangalore : A huge Malaria and Dengue Awareness campaign will be held in the city of Mangalore from June 10 to 18. As part of the programme around 600 students of 21 nursing colleges in Mangalore, will pay a door-to-door visit to houses in all wards of Mangalore and enlighten public on the symptoms of Malaria and Dengue and the preventive measures to be taken to check the spread of the disease.
This was informed by Dr Sudarshan, Health officer of Mangalore City Corporation, at a press meet held at the MCC Office on June 7, Friday.
He said a total of 1560 malaria cases have been reported in Mangalore City Corporation limits since January 2013 while 18 Dengue cases were reported during the period. However, there have been no deaths due to Malaria or Dengue, Dr Sudarshan said.
He also stated that the total number of 2125 cases of Malaria were reported in the city upto May in the year 2012, while 42 dengue cases were reported, he said.
Presently, MCC is trying to check the spread of the disease through its 42 volunteers, 30 anti-mosquito repellent sprayers and 2 lab technicians after appointing them on a contract basis, he said.
A campaign to create awareness among students on Malaria and Dengue will be held in schools and colleges with private participation, he informed.
