Mangalore: District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar and MLA Abhaychandra Jain visited the vented dam construction site at Malavoor for the multi-village drinking water project on May 24, Tuesday.
Minister Krishna J Palemar said that, that supply of drinking water will commence in March 2012. This project was visualized nearly 10 years back.
The project aims to supply drinking water to 11 villages under seven gram panchayats namely Bala, Malavoor, Padushedde, Kenjaar, Bajpe, Moodushedde, Tenka Ekkar, Badagu Ekkar, Permude, Kalavaar and Jokatte by constructing a dam at Malavoor across Gurpur River.
Speaking to the media persons, he said that a vented dam will be constructed in the first phase and jack well will be constructed in the second phase along with the treatment plant and pipelines for the supply of water. The dam can store 26 cubic meter of water per house, adding that this is a permanent source of water for the people of these villages, he said. The construction work is taken up by Mudrodi Constructions, Kavoor.
He said that 69 km road has been constructed in the district at the cost of Rs 8.7 crore.
