Udupi: Police have arrested one Suresh Naik of Paniyadi on the charges of attempting to kill his wife and also for keeping the  couple’s child at an anonymous location.

The incident is learnt to have taken place on December 11 evening, when Suresh who came home drunk, attacked his wife Sangeetha and then drove her out of the house. The couple’s five year old child Nitesh was handed over tto his friend Salim alias Sadiq who took the child to an anonymous location.
Sangeetha lodged a police complaint and was later admitted to Udupi government hospital. But Sadhu, a friend of her husband arrived in the hospital and threatened her to withdraw the case against her husband if she wanted her child back.

The Udupi  police who took up the case, raided  a lodge at Kushalnagar and arrested Suresh along with the child.

The accused Suresh was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody till January 31. The child is in custody of Suresh’s brother and will be handed over to  Sangeetha once she is discharged from hospital.
