Mangalore :  Police have arrested a car driver named Prashanth Shetty (30) of Paldane near Neermarga  on the charges of raping a Dalit  girl who is a BSW student at Roshni Nilaya. The accused has been arrested on July 26, Friday after the girl lodged a complaint at Kankanady Rural Police station along with her mother on July 25.

It is learnt, the accused Prashanth was jobless since two months. He was a married man with two daughters. The victim girl resides in his neighbourhood. The incident is learnt to have taken place on July 22 when Prashanth’s wife and childen had been to the nearby  temple. Taking advantage, Prashanth had lured the girl into his house  and later  raped her. The young woman in her complaint said her resistance yielded no result.She has also stated that the accused had used a condom before raping her and that he had an eye on her since some days.

The accused Prashanth has been produced before the court and remanded to fifteen days of judicial custody.

Meanwhile, locals are questioning why the girl fell into his trap by  entering his house.
