Udupi : A person escaped from the police station at Kota in Udupi district on Wednesday, who was taken into custody in connection with the illegal removal of sand at Hungarcutta recently.

He has been identified as Manju, a truck driver. According to the police, Manju had been taken into custody from a site of sand removal at Hungarcutta on Wednesday morning and was then brought to the police station.

But, on Wednesday afternoon, when the Sub-Inspector of Police had gone out of the police station for investigation, Manju, who was in police custody, pushed away the head constable and escaped from the police station.

Along with a case of illegal sand removal, a case of escape from police custody has been registered against Manju.
