Kasargod : A man from Kannur has been arrested by the Kasargod police on the charges of  possessing unaccounted currency worth Rs 29 lakhs. Police suspect this to be hawala money.

The cash of Rs 28,91,750 was seized from Abdul Aziz (54) when he landed at the railway station by a train from Kozhikode. The cash was in denominations of 1000,500 and 100. Police also seized his ATM and Pan card.

It is said Aziz told the police that it was not hawala money but  money he got by selling old gold . However, he had no bill to prove the same.

The case has been handed over to Kozhikode IT Department and investigations are underway.
