Mangaluru: A man from Sirsi, who posted derogatory comments on Facebook against local deity Swami Koragajja in September, on Sunday visited Vajradehi Math in Gurpur seeking forgiveness for his act.
Manoj Pandit, 45, had written ‘objectionable’ content against one of the most revered deities of Tulunadu. Offended with this, president of Hindu Samrakshana Samiti K R Shetty had filed a complaint at Mangaluru North police station. The police visited Sirsi and nabbed Pandit. The accused then pleaded guilty and said he was not aware of Koragajja and his stature. However, the Samiti did not withdraw the case.
Pandit, who then secured bail, informed the samiti members that he is willing to come to Mangaluru and tender unconditional apology. Though there were rumours that the case has been withdrawn, Mangaluru North police inspector said the case still is pending.
Pandit said, “though my FB post cannot be held as an objectionable one, I still beg pardon as I hurt the religious sentiments of people of Tulunadu. I was not aware of people worshipping ‘Koragajja’ in this part. I was under the impression that it was name of a person. I am ready to offer my apologies thousand times for the post,” he said.
