Udupi : The district administration has tightened the Covid-related guidelines on the backdrop of the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the virus.
In a swift move, all those arriving from international destinations have to compulsorily undergo a seven-day quarantine, Deputy Commissioner M Kurma Rao said. The weeklong quarantine will be applicable to even those who have tested negative in the RTPCR test. RTPCR retest will have to be done at the completion of the quarantine period, he added.
Moreover, those who are entering the district from Kerala would be required to produce RTPCR negative reports, the DC informed.
The move aimed at preventing the spread of the virus is significant as the district, being an educational hub, attracts many students from states all over India and abroad. “The educational institutions have been instructed to conduct a thorough screening and testing of students and the managements have wholeheartedly supported the district administration’s directives,” the DC said.
Efforts are also being made to increase vaccination coverage. “Those who haven’t taken the first dose are being identified,” he said.
The DC also requested cooperation from the public to adhere to the stricter Covid guidelines for safeguarding themselves and others around them in the district.
