Mangalore : Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake said that it is mandatory to form the ward committees in all the corporations and few corporations have already initiated the process of forming ward committees.
Speaking at the public grievance meeting held issues related to Mangalore City Corporation, at council hall on October 7, Tuesday he said that apart from ward committees, area sabhas and citizen forums must also be constituted.
Speaking on the smart city project, Sorake said that as per the recent guidelines citty must have the population between five to 10 lakh. Although the Central government has shortlisted 44 cities for the project , the final list has not been released.
He said that since Mysore and Hubli come under the criteria, the department has recommended the Central government to consider Mangalore to be included in the project. Apart from it, Mangalore may also be included in the port city project and the department has recommended Udupi, Bijapur and Mysore for heritage city project.
Commenting on the vacant posts in the Mangalore City Corporation, he said that department will appoint 2,500 A, B and C cadre officers and 1,000 Group D workers in the State and finance department has given approval for it and process has been commenced.
On the occasion, general public submitted a total 33 grievance letters to individual problems. Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike member Hanumanth Kamath said that Mangalore City Corporation authorities are delaying to demolish 166 unauthorized buildings listed during the tenure of city commissioner Harish Kumar. In turn Minister directed the officers to look into all the complaints at the earliest and assured to convene a review meeting within 10 days to review progress of various matters at the Mangalore City Corporation.
Speaking on delay in appointing full-time commissioner to the MCC, Sorake said that CM has not passed any order to reinstate Hegde and was removed since he was not belong to IAS/KAS cadre.
