Mangalore : A protest was staged in front of the DC office in Mangalore by autorickshaw drivers on December 3, Monday, demanding a revision in autorickshaw fares. The grouse of the auto drivers was that they found it difficult to make two ends meet in this age of soaring prices of essential commodities as well as spare parts of autos.
Sunil Kumar Bajal, DYFI leader, addressed the agitators and said that the existing auto fare was very low and emphasized the need to revise the same at the earliest keeping the best interests of auto drivers in mind.
The auto drivers also submitted a memorandum to the DC enlisting their demands. Those who led the protest included Jayaprakash Shetty of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Autorickshaw drivers unit, Shekhar of Mangalore City Autorickshaw Drivers Association, LT Suvarna of the District unit of Federation of Karnataka Drivers’ Union.
