Mangalore : The MCC will be on a property tax and water cess collection drive from February 1. During the 15day drive MCC officials will make a spot visit and collect arrears from the defaulters.
Informing this at MCC meeting held on January 31, Thursday, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar said the corporation which has registered 60 per cent progress in property tax collection, intends to register 100 per cent progress. He said if property tax and water cess is still not paid, then as a second phase, names of the defaulters will appear in media and notice board and as a last resort there will be drum beating method when the names of defaulters will be announced in public.
The MCC meeting also discussed the issue of encroachment of roadsides by some builders on the pretext of beautification. Action was demanded against erring builders.
Some ruling party corporators sought an explanation for the suspension of the drive against footpath vendors through Civic Tiger. Responding to this, the Commissioner said the state government has not yet issued guidelines and added MCC would resort to the drive once alternate arrangements are made for the footpath vendors.
