Mangalore : The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport have once again thwarted an attempt of smuggling of gold and seized gold staple pins, totally weighing 577.000 grams and valued at Rs.17,19,460/- concealed as silver colour coated staple pins in 18 carton boxes of vegetable dry fruits from the possession of a passenger named Mr. Nesif Kowal aged about 28 years, who is a resident of Bevinja, PO Thekkil Ferry, Via Chengala, Kasaragod Dt, Kerala 671541 and arrived at Mangalore International Airport on 23.03.2014 at about 07.15 hrs by Air India Express flight IX814 from Dubai.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Shri. Krishna Kumar Prasad, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore International Airport and were lead by Shri.B.Prabhakara Poojary, Superintendent along with Superintendents Lionel Fernandes, B.A.Kariappa, H.G.Yogesh and Inspectors Shri.G.Kumaraswamy, K.T.Preethi Suma, S.Ranjan Behera and Ankit Kumar and Hawaldar Gulabi.
Further investigation is under progress under the guidance of Shri.D.Purushotham, Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore.
