Mangalore : The DK District administration in association with Vijaya Bank will organize ‘Mangalore Half Marathon- 2011’ with theme Clean-Green-Progressive Mangalore from Nehru Maidan to Mangala Stadium on February 20, Sunday at 6 am.
Addressing the media representatives at the press meet held at DC Office on Feb 5, Saturday District in charge minister Krishna J Palemar said that we want environment and development to go together.
Around 5,000 people are expected to participate in the event. The marathon will be held irrespective of caste, religion and party, he said.
Minister said that the Marathon is open to all and the people willing to participate in the sports spirit will have separate category and to encourage others the marathon of 6 kilometers will be held.
The first ten winners of the participants will be awarded with certificates, medal and the cash prize. The participants of Half Marathon venue at 6 am and will start at 6.30 am, while the mini marathon of 6 km will be started at 7 am, he said. The cultural programme will be held at Mangala Stadium at 8 am and valedictory and the prize distribution will be held at 8.30 am, he added.
The half marathon will start from Nehru Maidan via Pandeshwar- Mangaladevi- Jeppu Market- Valencia- Kankanady- Jyothi Circle- Hampankatta- Navabharath circle- P V S Road- City Hospital- Nanthoor- Kadri Park- Bejai Road- KSRTC- Kuntikana Road- Infosys- Urwa Store- Chilimbi Road and conclude at Mangala Stadium.
The Mini Marathon will move towards Hampankatta- Tagore Park- Jyothi Circle- Bunts Hostel- Karangalpady- Jail Road- Canara College Road- M G Road- Lady Hill Road and end at Stadium.
The winner of the Half Marathon will receive the cash prize of Rs 20,000, second winner Rs 10,000, third winner Rs 5000, fourth winner Rs 3000, fifth winner Rs 2000 and the sixth to tenth winner with Rs 1000. While the winner of the Mini Marathon will receive the cash prize of Rs 3000, second winner Rs 2000, third winner Rs 1000 and 4th, 5th and 6th winner will receive Rs 500.
The 50 achievers of mini marathon will be awarded with the certificates. The participants can register their names at all the branches of Vijaya Bank on or before February 17 at 5.30 pm.

Later the dignitaries launched hoardings and banners of the marathon. Palemar also inaugurated the paperless workstation at DC Office on the occasion.
