Mangalore: The Mangalore (Kenjaru) international airport’s working licence has been renewed for 2011 by DGCA after an inspection recently, M.R Vasudeva, director of Bajpe / Kenjaru airport stated here today. This airport is now considered safer than others, with a safety basket of approved rules to it, he said.
The renewal of licence means that an air passenger enters a safe aerodrome when he comes to Kenjaru for air travel, Vasudeva explained. There is a runway (track) of a specified length and breadth pointed, marked and lighted as per ICAO documents. All normal regulations of international flying are followed in Mangalore, he added.
The runway is 8,038 feet long, good enough for A-320, 321 and 319 besides Boeing 737-800 aircrafts, he told pressmen today. The inspection of airport logistics has been done over a period by DGCA officers in September and June 2010. The Mangalore airport was not critical in any respect. Aerodrome manual and safety methods have been checked by the inspectors at the table-top aerodrome, he said.
More requirements are in progress as a continuous process, Vasudeva explained.
A high Court case on expiry of licence is still at the court. Proper documents for the licence renewal were given, so licence is on, he told the press today.
