Mangalore : The warden of the judicial wing of the Mangalore prison has been accused of behaving in a high handed fashion and treating under trials in a biased manner.
An under trial Mohammad Faizal who is behind bars since eight months has lodged a complaint with several senior authorities in this regard. According to his complaint, the warden behaved rudely and even demanded cash at the time of the release of prisoners. He even demanded cash from prisoners if they were supposed to be produced before court.
Another serious allegation made by Faizal was that the warden was a Sangh Parivar man and therefore tortured and harassed Muslim inmates by not producing them before court on time. This has been going on since several years, Faizal alleged and demanded suitable remedial measures.
Mangalore Police Commissioner while stating that the complaint has been received , said the issue comes under the purview of the prisons department.
Mangalore Jail Superintendent Doddakamaiah said so far he was unaware of such an incident, but admitted that the prison faced lack of escort staff.
