Mangalore: Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa inaugurated the two day National Fishermen Conference (West Coast) organized by National Fishermen’s Cell at Sanghanikethan on April 29, Friday.
Speaking after inaugurated the event, he said that Mr. Yeddyurappa was speaking at a function organized to felicitate him for having extended loan of Rs. 50,000 to fisherwomen at 3 per cent interest per annum.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said 25,000 houses had been built for fishing families in the State and that he wished that every fishing family owns a house in the next two years. He added that he was ready to allocate enough funds to provide houses to fishing families under different government schemes.
He advised fisherwomen to formulate a proposal based on their needs and submit it to the Government. He told them that they should educate their children but ensure that they do not take up any other profession but fishing.
He also said that, any problems of the fishermen will be responded by state government. The dead fishermen’s family will be given compensation. Around 10,000 fishermen’s family will be given the ice kit worth Rs 5000 during their sail from morning to evening. The state government will sanction and purchase new dredger to help fishermen during fishing.
Deputy Speaker N Yogesh Bhat said that the BJP government has given good facility to the fishermen and the loan with 4 percent interest. He also said that he has requested CM to sanction the fund for the dredger and ice kits for the fishermen.
NFC National Convener Dr Prakash Malgave presided over the event and said that, there are large number people who earn living in fishing. BJP has given strong support and endorse the fishermen with various schemes and facilities.
Muraleedhar Rao, BJP National Secretary said that the BJP party is the only government which has organized a national level convention for fishermen first in Vishakapatnam and now in Mangalore.
MLA and National Fishermen Cell (NFC) Joint Convener Lalaji R Mendon welcomed the gathering. S D Amin proposed vote of thanks. Ramachandra Baikampady, ex convener of Fishermen Cell briefed the problems of Fishermen.
Former Central Petroleum Minister Ram Nayak, District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar, Deputy Speaker N Yogesh Bhat, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Udupi MP Sadananda Suvarna, B Nagaraj Shetty, chairman, Coastal Development Authority, Padmanabha Kottary. BJP district president, ZP President Shailaja Bhat, and others were present at the inaugural function.
Prior to the National Fisheries Convention, CM B S Yeddyurappa laid the foundation stone for the upcoming new building of Circuit house on April 28, Friday at 10.30 a.m.
