Mangalore: The newly constructed, imposing royal structure of high education in Mangalore University, Mangala Auditorium for Convocation ceremonies and other special occasions is ready now and will have its opening formally as on Friday, April 29th morning at 11-45am, it was stated by vice chancellor Prof. T.C Shivashankar Murthy in a press conference arranged at University College hall near Hampankatta on April28, Thursday morning. Prof. K.Chinnappa Gowda, Registrar, Yedapadithaya, Finance officer and G.P Shivaram, HoD were present on the occasion.
The new auditorium building has been constructed in 2 years’ period, using internal resources only of the University at a cost of Rs.8 crores, but another Rs.3 crore worth of works have to be completed. The auditorium has an area of 3,045sq.metres. The structure has several architectural features, using timber and Corinthian style capitals, with 26 pillars. A thousand persons can be seated inside.
The hall will have air-conditioning, seating and light & sound fittings soon.
The University will have a new façade near the 2 roads at the entrance. An imposing welcome tower has been constructed at a cost of Rs.40 lakhs, created by Master Plannary of Puttur. The 2 roads in front of the main entrance leading to the University buildings are concretized at 1.17 crores of rupees, the Vice –chancellor told reporters in city today (April.18).
Dr.M. Veerappa Moily, who as Education minister in 1990, was responsible for the formation of Mangalore University and is Union Law and Minister now in New Delhi, will inaugurate the Mangala auditorium at Mangala Gangotri on April 29 at noon. Dr. V.S. Acharya, minister of higher education, Karnataka will be chief guest. Prof. K.M Kaveriappa, former VC of MU, will be special guest. Three eminent personalities, Dr.Ajai K Singh (Literature and Administration), Bannanje Govindacharya (Literature) and DK Chowta (Literature and Social Service) will be awarded Honourary Doctorate Degrees on April 30 Saturday, at 29th Convocation.
