Mangaluru : The Mangalore University has agreed to reduced the fees for post graduate seats under self-financing category after massive protests by ABVP students at Konaje.
Jayesh P K, city secretary of ABVP said that the registrar P S Yadapadithaya who met the protesters after the Syndicate meeting assured them that the highest decision making body of the university had taken note of their concerns and course fee hike for self-financing courses too was being rationalized and details of the same hosted on university’s webportal.
Jayesh described the decision of the Syndicate as a victory for the pro-student agitation taken up by his organization. Incidentally, an ABVP delegation had met Byrappa on July 21 urging him to reduce the fee for both general merit as well as self-financing courses. The university in a little over a week has responded to our demands positively facilitating the smooth conduct of admissions to PG courses, Jayesh said thanking the university administration for their gesture.

Following July 27 protest, the Syndicate of Mangalore University has consented to decrease the recent fee hike proposed for various post-graduate courses offered by it. While the academic council of the university at its special meeting on Saturday had decided to pare the course fee for general merit students and limit it in a range of 10-12% as provided in the statutes, the Syndicate gave its consent to limit the fee hike for fully/partially self-financed courses in the range of 5-10%.
