Mangalore : Dr Siddalingappa S Kumbar (46), Deputy Librarian of Mangalore University, has  committed suicide by hanging from a tree in  the University campus on June 27, Thursday. He was missing since June 26, Wednesday and had also not  reported to duty.

Dr Kumbar who hailed from Bijapur stayed in the staff quarters of the University with his family. The reason for his suicide is not known.

But his wife Revamma in her complaint said Kumbar was disturbed over the death of his sister some time back. She also said he had not been for the last rites owing to academic commitments of children. Kumbar, she said had been to see his sister some time back with his family. Revamma had then stayed back while Kumbar and his children had returned.

Dr Kumbar who was Assistant  librarian was promoted Deputy Librarian in 2007. He was a first rank holder in post graduate exam of Gulbarga University  and a PhD degree holder from Mangalore University.
