Mangalore: Lord Ganesha is believed to be the remover of all obstacles hence people offer first puja to him in auspicious occasion. When the time comes to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, people of Mangalore were fully ready with the preparations for the festivals which were celebrated on Saturday September 11.
The idols were prepared as per the requirement of a customer who wanted to fulfil his vow with the colour like pink and red.
It is believed that lord Ganesha visits the houses of the devotees on the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi and takes away their sorrows, bestowing on them blessings of happiness, prosperity and good fortune.
People distribute sweets to neighbours and sugarcane is kept on either sides of the houses to welcome lord Ganesha with laddus, modaks and various vegetarian dishes. Lord Ganesha was offered “sahasranama” service, meaning chanting of thousand names, each name with different meaning.
Later, Lord Ganesha’s idol made of clay were carried in a long procession with tableaux accompanied by people and later immersed it in the nearby well or lake.
