Mangalore : Mangaloreans organized several protests all over the city against Anna Hazare’s arrest before his indefinite fast at Delhi to protest against ineffective anti-corruption bill on Aug 16, Tuesday.
A number of social work organizations and political parties organized protest against the Delhi police and the union government. The protestors burnt the effigies of central leaders, while others lit candles late in the evening.
The BJP Mahila Morcha and Yuva Morcha jointly organized a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue near Town Hall Mangalore, during which they burned copies of the government-approved Lokpal.
Shrikar Prabhu, the president of the BJP city unit accused the central government of attempting to divide the people and create a vote bank for itself.
The Akhila Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also organized a protest in front of KPT, in which hundreds of students from KPT participated.
The students of Canara College demanded that the Jan Lokpal Bill should be passed as proposed by Team Anna, after organizing a rally from their college to the DC’s office and submitted a memorandum to DC N. S. Channappa Gowda.
