Mangaluru : Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a demonstration on the Mangalagangotri campus of Mangalore University on Thursday opposing the university inviting a former vice-chancellor of Mangalore University as a guest for the university’s 40th foundation day celebration.
Incidentally, the former vice-chancellor in question whose name had been printed in the invitation card did not turn up to the function.
Speaking on the occasion Sheetal Kumar Jain, vibhag saha sanchalak, ABVP, Mangaluru accused the former vice-chancellor of involving in many scams during his four-year tenure in Mangalagangotri.
Mr. Jain said that the ABVP had earlier urged the government to conduct an inquiry into the alleged scams. But the government has not done anything over it. The police asked the activists to withdraw their protest as they had not obtained permission from the university or police.
The activists insisted that they would continue the demonstration till Kota Srinivasa Poojary, Minister for Fisheries, Ports, Inland Transport and Muzrai, who was to inaugurate the event, would arrive as they would have to submit a memorandum to him.
They withdrew the stir after a university professor informed that the vice-chancellor in question has not turned up and that Mr. Poojary will also not attend the function.
