Mangaluru: Mangaluru Central Railway Station has now got a counter that will cater to cashless transactions.
The move comes after the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway introduced a Point of Sale (PoS) machine at the reservation counters of the Railway Station.
Passengers can avail the service by using their debit/credit cards, said a release from authorities.
Indian Railways plans on installing about 10,000 such machines across the country with assistance from State Bank of India.
The release stated that PoS machines would be installed at Pollachi, Palakkad Town, Palakkad Junction, Ottappalam, Shoranur, Angadippuram, Malappuram, Tirur, Feroke, Satellite PRS Counter at Kozhikode Medical College , Wayanad, Vadakara, Mahe, Tellicherry, Kannur, Payyannur, Kanhangad, Kasargod, Mangaluru Junction and Mangaluru Satellite Counter (near Mangaluru City Corporation Office) in the next three days.
Authorities plan on extending the service to Integrated Passenger Reservation/Unreserved ticketing system counters in the next phase.
