Mangaluru: Port city Mangaluru celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with utter devotion and fervour on Monday.
Every household were seen celebrating the festival of birth day of Lord Ganesha, son of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvathi. The elephant headed god is worshiped and sought blessings for wealth and prosperity.
People worship Lord Ganesha in their home by keeping his idol, fro 2-3 days. They offer varieties of dishes as ‘Naivedhya’ to Ganesha. After three days of celebration, Ganapathi’s idol will be immersed into lake, river, sea or any other water sources.
Many temples can be observed with Ganapathi idols. Starting from Mangaladevi Temple, Choudeshwari Temple, Ganesh Temple, Nehru Maidan, and Bunts Hostel and in many other places Ganesh idols were kept.
On the last day of the festival a big immersing procession which is also known as Ganesh Visarjan can be seen in various parts of the city. Tableaus, music and dance are the main attraction of the immersing procession.
