Mangaluru: The world famous Mangaluru Dasara celebrations will be held at Sri Gokarnanatha temple in Kudroli from September 21 to 30 and preparations are being made for the festival, said B Janardhana Poojary, organiser of the festival speaking in a press meet held in the city on Monday.
Speaking to media persons, Poojary said, “Installation of the idols of deities is scheduled for September 21 at Swarna Kalamantapa of Sri Gokarnanatha temple with religious, cultural rituals. A Chandika Homa is scheduled for September 28 followed by Maha Anna Santharpana on September 29. Various cultural events have also been arranged as part of the 10 day long festival.”
Procession of idols will begin from Kudroli on September 30 and around 75 tableaus are expected to take part in the procession. The procession will cover 7 kilometre long area of the city including Kudroli- Lady hill – Lalbhag – Ballalbagh – Hampanakatta – University College – Ganapathi High School Road – Car Street and will end at Kudroli with the immersion of idols, he informed.
“Dasara procession will begin from Kudroli on September 30, where Ganapathi, Navadurga and Sharada idols will be taken out during the procession. Nearly 75 tableaus will take part. The procession will pass through the well decorated and colourfully lit main streets of the city for a distance of about 7 kilometers. Procession will start from Kudroli – Lady hill – Lalbhag – Ballalbagh – Hampanakatta – University College – Ganapathi High school road – Car Street- New Chitra talkies and will culminate by immersing the idols at Kudroli premises,” he informed.
Kudroli temple members H S Sairam, Raghavendra Kulur, Padmaraj R, B K Tharanath, K Maheshchandra, B Devendra Poojary and others were present.
