Mangaluru : Days after Adkar-Mavinakatte Cross in Sullia taluk witnessed two major accidents, which claimed seven lives, including four members of a family, the Dakshina Kannada district police declared it as an accident zone, and has written to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take measures to prevent accidents at the spot.
According to police, so far, only two accidents took place recently at the spot. “As per our survey, after back-to-back accidents took place at the cross, we found that since the cross is quite wide and in a good condition, motorists tend to take advantage of it by speeding. They tend to overtake at the cross, which resul results in head-on collisions. The two accidents are quite similar, and took place after overtaking,” said a senior police official, who did not want to be named.
