Mangaluru : A woman was used by a gang to Kidnap, blackmail, and to extort money in Belthangady and in this connection the police have arrested eight person.
Abdul Basheer was trapped by a gang after he was asked by one of his friends, to pick up a lady and drop her at Ujire by an autorickshaw which was later intercepted by them. Basheer was forced to pose for a photo along with the women, and using that picture, threathened to create problems for him and later video clipping was also caputered of them at lonely place and beaten up and demanded 10 lakh rupees.
At a press meet here on Friday July 31st, Dr.Sharanappa, SP Dakshina kannada, stated the Police led by ASP Rahul Kumar, have arrested prime accused Mohammed Asif alias Asif aged 25 Yrs, Abdul Lathif alias Abdulla, 36 yrs both of Goliangady, Sabir 25yrs of Maddakka, Abubakker Siddique 21yrs, Hashim 25yrs both of Kukkedi, Suleiman 35yrs of Padangady, Abdul Majeed 22yrs of Nelligudde, and Zarina 27yrs of Nekkilu.
Four more believed to be involved in the case will be arrested soon by the Police, said SP
Explaining about the incident, SP stated that around 5.30pm on July 27, 2015, Basheer received a call on his mobile, from Asif while on the way to Loretto Padavu, by autorickshaw asking him to pick up a lady and drop her on the way at Ujire.
Lady who was burkha clad, now identified as Zaiina was waiting to be picked by the highly obliging Basheer in the autorickshaw, in which he was travelling to Ujire, when the auto was intercepted, by two cars, a Ritz and a Scorpio, after following them for certain distance. Occupants of the two cars then forcibly took, Basheer and Harris, the auto driver, in one car and drove them, to a lonely spot and assaulted them. Basheer and Harris were made to pose with the woman and photographs were exposed, thereafter demanded Rs 10 lacs, by creating moral fear in them to circulate the photos on WhatsApp and file a case of rape if their demand was not met. From there Basheer and Harris were then taken to a house in Nainad near Venur. Rs 4,500 cash, two mobile handsets, the auto rickshaw and Basheer’s passport were robbed from the two by the gang.
Later Basheer filed a complaint with Belthangady police and under leadership of ASP Rahul Kumar and Beltangady inspector Lingappa Poojary a special investigation team was formed and they succeeded in arresting the above mentioned eight of them while the search for four other are on.
The SP also said one of the accused, Abdul Lathif has posed sub-inspector of crime, and that the arrested eight have no previous record of crime, while Husband of Zarina, woman accused was not involved in the case.
Regarding the fingers chopped off a dalit named Sundar Malekudiya’s in Balthangady, allegedly by his landlord, and matter has been taken up seriously, said the SP and one person has already been arrested, and further investigations are on.
SP stated, that on the murder case, Lalitha wife of Jayanand the deceased in Subramanya, and her paramour, were involved, in the murder which the investigation’s revealed the SP. “She was in close contact with the accused Dhananjay. Lalitha was not happy with her husband Jayanand, Dhananjay who was in relation with Lalitha, gave a ‘supari’ of Rs 65,000 to another accused Chandrakant to kill her husband Jayanand. Contract killers, were informed by Dhananjay, who was informed by Jayanand’s wife to waylay Jayanand, and kill him and his body to be hid in a forest.
Chandrakant, who revealed the entire matter during interrogation led to arrest of five in the case – Lalita, Dhananjay Dinesh Poojary, Chandrakant and Chintan. A earlier attempt to kill Jayanand in the form of an accident failed,” the SP said.
