Mangaluru : A woman punched a person in the face infront of the police on seeing him at city police commissioner’s office around Thursday noon who allegedly sexually harassed her in a bus recently.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar had concluded a media briefing about the arrest of Hussain, 42, a daily wage labourer, accused of sexually harassing a woman
in a private city bus on January 14. Her social media post about the incident had gone viral. The accused had been brought into the hall under police escort.
She punched the accused twice as soon as Shashi Kumar left the hall. She was limping out to get treatment for a fractured right leg following a motorcycle accident on Tuesday.
Commissioner Shashi Kumar said the attack took them by surprise. “We’ll ensure such incidents are not repeated,” he said.
Police said the accused, who hails from Kumble in Kasaragod district, had gone to Deralakatte for a hospital visit. The alleged harassment took place at 3.45pm on January 14 when the woman was on her way to Pumpwell from Deralakatte. In her social media post, she said the accused sat next to her. Pretending to be busy speaking on the phone, he started touching her inappropriately. Despite brushing him off, he continued touching her. After she shouted at him, Hussain apologised and got down.
