Mangalore : Manish Karbikar, an IAS officer of the 1998 batch took charge as the new Police Commissioner of Mangalore on September 19, Wednesday.
Hailing from Chattisgarh, Manish who is 39, said he would give top priority to good police-public relationship and added every city is unique in its own sense and added he would first familiarize himself with Mangalore.
An electronics engineering graduate. He had served in BHEL for six months before joining the police department. He has also served as ASP in Bellary, Gadag, Mandya and the Rajbhavan. Karbikar had also worked as police advisor in the International Peacekeeping Force placed in Sudan, North Africa, for one year. He was SP of crime branch cell, Bangalore and has even served as SP of Mysore and Gulbarga. The previous posting which he was holding was that of DIG (civil rights enforcement), Bangalore.
The new Commissioner was given a guard of honour at the premises of the Mangalore Police Commissionerate. IGP Western Range Pratap Reddy welcomed the new Commissioner. DCP Mutturaya and others were present.
