Darmasthala : A total of 192 couples tied the nuptial knot in 40th annual mass marriage ceremony at Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala on April 27, Wednesday .
The couples entered Amrithavarshini auditorium in a procession. Later, the rituals were held as per the respective traditions. The couples later took a vow in the presence of large gatherings.
Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggde and Hemavathi Heggade gave away the sari, blouse, shawl and dhothi to the couples and blessed them to lead the prosperous life.
A total of Rs 8, 515 was spent on each couple. It included Rs 5,965 for mangalasuthra, Rs 450 each for saree/blouse and Rs 450 for shawl/dhothi/shirt, Rs 300 for religious rituals, Rs 1,050 for meals (for 20 persons) and Rs 300 other expenses.
The married couples included 52 from Dakshina Kannada, 30 from Udupi, 16 from Chikmagalur, 15 from Shimoga, 16 from Hassan, 2 from Bangalore, 4 from Mysore, 9 from Haveri, 16 from Darwad, 8 from Uttar Kannada, 6 from Davangere, 5 from Kerala, and other districts.
