Mangalore: A huge rally and a protest was held in Mangalore on September 1, Saturday against the home stay attack. Various youth organizations irrespective of party lines took part in the protest. Those who participated included the Youth Congress, Yuva Janata Dal, DYFI, AIYF, NSUI, SFI, AISFY.
A rally was taken out from Ambedkar Circle upto the DC office and students were seen holding placards and shouting slogans condemning the incident.
Later a huge protest was held in front of the DC office. Addressing the agitators Mithun Rai, District Youth Congress President questioned why the government was hesitating to invoke Goonda Act against the perpetrators of the home stay attack. He said the protest will continue until Goonda Act was invoked.
He said that like-minded groups have joined hands to work towards the elimination of anti-social elements from the society. Strongly condemning the act of saffron outfits in targeting partying young men and women thereby curtailing their freedom, he said the organizations behind the attack were later denying their role behind such attacks.
He also questioned why the government was dilly dallying to act against sex tourism..
Youth leaders Preetham, Ivan D’Souza, Praveenchandra Alva, Dayanand Shetty, Satish Bantwal, Yogish Kumar Shetty Jeppu, Satish Bantwal and others were present.
