Mangalore: The Shivarama Karanth Award for 2011 has been conferred on dance Guru Master Vithal for his lifelong contributions to this stage art, said Pradeep K.Kalkura, president of DK unit of KS Parishat, who added that in a career of 70 years, Vithal had trained innumerous students in classical dances, as in Bharatanatyam.
The award will be presented to the dance teacher on the occasion of 110th birth anniversary of litterateur and dancer kota Shivarama Karanth, as on Oct.10th, Monday, at the Town Hall.
Master Vithal has received many awards earlier, including Karnataka Kalashree awarded in 1998-99 by state dance academy, Kalkura informed.
Minister Krishna Palemar has been asked to confer the award on Master ceremony at 5.30pm in Town Hall. There is Yakshagana and a lion dance at 4.30pm earlier on. Prof.M.L.Samaga, president of Bayalata Academy will be a guest of honour, among others.
