Udupi: Karnataka Government’s initiative Mathru Purna Scheme was launched by Minister Pramod Madhwaraj in Udupi district.
The aim of this scheme is to provide at least one nutritious meal every day to pregnant women and lactating mothers particularly those living in rural areas.
Gracy Gonslaves from child and women welfare department welcomed the gathering here and said that the scheme was developed to improve maternal health that will have a direct impact on the child’s nutrition. Which will further help in curbing child malnutrition and infantile deaths due to poor nutrition.
District minister in-charge, Pramod Madhwaraj addressing the gathering said that the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is committed to making Karnataka a hunger-free state. When the Anna Bhagya scheme was launched, a lot of them criticized the program but today a lot of families are taking the benefit of this initiative.
The scheme has been designed to ensure the supply of food for at least 300 days from the beginning of pregnancy till 45 days after delivery. The scheme will give them meals which includes, rice, dal or sambar, pulses, egg and groundnut- jaggery chikki. Vegetarians can avail two varieties of sprouts instead of non veg.
Udupi CMC president Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje, Udupi ZP vice-president Sheela K Shetty, TP president Nalini Pradeep Rao, ADC Anuradha, DCH Rohini, Information department officer Rohini and others were present.
