Mangalore: A beach cleaning programme, after the half Marathon and clean the city under MCC limits, is due on May 1 as organised by DK Dt. administration. The ultimate aim is to have a clean and green and progressive port city Mangalore, the campaigner says.
About500 volunteers including students, fishermen officials and service organisations members are likely to take part in the event on the anvil.
A preliminary meeting called by Subodh Yadav DC/DM of DK dt. was told that 43 kms. long beach from Talapady (south) to Udupi border (north) will be cleaned up in the exercise undertaken by DC who chaired the meet on Friday (Apr.22).
He explained that 23 villages on the coastal belt would be covered, which included a Corporation, 2 municipalities and 6 GPs, besides 6 beaches as well.
It is only a day’s programme on a Sunday (May1) but will have no rest, as it continues, DC pointed out. The entire (coastal) selected stretch for clean up is divided into 5 zones upto Hejamadi from Talapady. They are again sub-divided into sub zones for better work, he added.
The district level inauguration of the popular programme has been arranged at either Bengre or Thannirbavi. Organisers in other zones can hold their own inaugurals, if so felt, but on May1.
Local organisations will arrange food for volunteers, Yatish Baikampady CEO of Panambur Beach Tourism Project informed the meeting. MRPL will patronize the entire exercise. Materials such as vehicles, hand-gloves, baskets, showels, re-usable plastic bags (to contain rubbish), hooks and caps are needed for the volunteering groups, the CEO said.
The DC asked zonal officers to visit various spots, hold meetings with locals, identify places to clean and decide on matters. He told NGOs to start campaigns on clean Mangalore. Earthmovers equipment could also be used, DC said.
