Mangalore: Humiliated by a cash-starved Air India in paying adequate compensation to the bereaved families in the May 2010 Bajpe Air Crash Case, the Victims’ Families Association(VFA)has decided to approach the Supreme Court after failing to secure Rs 75 lakhs per victim, from Kerala High Court.
It may be recalled that a single judge of Kerala HC had awarded Rs 75lakhs per each life lost in the air crash, but Air India questioned this order in a division bench court, which stayed the earlier order of single judge, but asked the victims to decide the issue by a dialogue with Air India.
Aggrieved by this reversal in fortunes, the members of VFA have called a meeting at Sahodaya Hall in the part city, on September 18 at 11.30AM to discuss and decide on the next move against Kerala HC division bench order, after fully considering the costs incurred so far.
However, 55 affected families/ persons in the Air India Boing Crash are taking the legal battle to international levels, with discussions covering a London based insurance Co. during a third round. Mohammed Beary, Chairman of the VFA stated that Air India had failed in discharging its duties on matters of paying compensation properly.
