Bangalore: It is Workers Day all over the world, when red flowers bloom on roadside trees, and workers move in procession, to express their joyous ful in a careless way.
Law minister Suresh Kumar took a Sweeper in hand and swept the road on May Day, saying workers like farmers are the backbone of the nation in two sectors, agriculture and industry, in fields and factories. All labourers, whether on daily wages and weekly payments, are doing national service in one form or another to raise the GDP of the country. Poor workers lend their hand in national progress even when they are illiterate or semi-literate. It is a tragedy that their personal lives have descended to the depths of misery these days, Suresh lamented.
On May Day only, two daily wage labourers died in a well as wet mud on the wall collapsed covered them, while digging a well in Haleyangadi Junction on Mangalore –Udupi road.
