Mangaluru: “I thank the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and district in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai for helping Mangaluru City Corporation to be listed in second phase of smart cities,” said MCC Mayor Harinath.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Mayor said that among the 27 cities listed in second phase, which will be developed as smart cities, Karnataka’s Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Shivamogga and Tumkur are included.
“Mangaluru has enough resources to be a smart city. We are glad that Mangaluru has been chosen for it, meanwhile we should work hard with unity to emerge as model city of the country,” he said.
Informing about the area based proposal made by MCC, Commissioner Muhammad Nazeer said that the MCC had prepared a proposal of 1628 acres, identifying them in central business district around Hampankatta, Bunder and Car Street.
The proposed list as follows:
Fisheries Harbour redevelopment – 22 acres, Hampankatta junction retail node – 27 acres, Central Civic Node – 100 acres, old port redevelopment – 22 acres, upgradation of religiou zone – 57 acres, water front and marine development – 25 acres, and others.
“Integrated citizen interface platform will be provided with dual access i.e. ‘One touch Mangalore’ for mobile phones and ‘One access Mangalore’ for web. A financial plan of Rs 2000 crore was also submitted,” he added.
Opposition leader Roopa D Bangera, Corporator Appi and others were present.
