Mangaluru: Mayor Kavitha Sanil became a saviour for a bride-to-be from Maroli in the city who had difficulty in mobilizing money for her wedding. Though the wedding of Anitha, a resident of Maroli, was scheduled for December 3, poverty forced her to meet the mayor and seek financial help. On Thursday, Anitha met the mayor and narrated her plight.
“My father, who should have taken up the responsibility of my marriage, passed away recently. Meanwhile, my mother is bedridden as she is ailing from paralysis,” Anitha told the mayor, requesting help. Moved by the plight of Anitha, Kavitha immediately offered her Rs 5,000. She also called corporators and officials present at Mangaluru City Corporation and requested them to help Anitha by contributing money.
Within minutes, Rs 42,000 was collected. After handing over the money to Anitha, the mayor said: “It is a small effort on our part to help a poor girl who is struggling to pool in money for her marriage.”
