Mangalore : Mayor Rajani Dugganna inaugurated 5 days Students Yakshgana Sambrama-2011, organized by Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, Bangalore at Town Hall On Jan 14, Friday.
Particpating as the honourary chief guest on the occasion, Dr Chinnappa Gowda, registrar of Mangalore University said that Yakshagana is a world of festival. It has the history of 300 to 400 year old.
The Yakshagana must interest the students in order to preserve it more than participating in any competition. Getting trained and learning the art is important to safeguard it. On must oresent the performance with the feeling, he said.
Delivering the presidential address on the occasion, Kumble Sundar Rao, president of Karnataka Yakshagana Academy said that, Today the meaning of art has changed among people and hence the art of yakshagana must be encouraged.
Acamdemy for Yakshagana will be done by many people but they must look to maintain it. The art of Yakshagana was mainly took birth in Ghats but since it was not nurtured it diminished. But Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district has made an effort to protect it. The art must be influenced in such a way that Yakshagana must not only represent DK and Udupi but must represent Karnataka. Government must support this art to carry forward, he said.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat of Udupi has encouraged a lot towards the art of Yakshagana apart from his work of infrastructure. The thing which was done in Udupi like training school childrens must also be done in Mangalore, he said.
