BANGALORE: Mayor Shantha Kumari’s inspection of rain-hit areas on Friday saw several Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials being taken to task for inefficient work.
Pointing to the Anepalya temporary bridge under which debris was dumped on storm water drains (SWD), the mayor said chief engineer, SWD, H C Ananthaswamy had said the SWD Cell would clear the mess. “But now Ananthaswamy is saying that it will be done by the ward engineer. Has he gone mad?” she asked. Adding to this, District Minister Ramalinga Reddy said Ananthaswamy will be transferred to a different department in the next four days.
Meanwhile, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana admitted that the officials had done “foolish work”. “The focus is on relief now and action later. We have reserved `20 lakh per ward to take up emergency work during the rainy season,” he said.
