Mangalore : State Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khadar directed the concerned officials to take precautionary measures to control the spread of diseases like,n city.
Speaking at the review meeting held on malaria control programme held as a part of health campaign in the MCC limits at Mangalore City Corporation on May 10, Saturday, he said that the increasing menace of mosquitoes has given a room for fear of spreading a contagious disease like malaria and dengue.
Khader also urged the Health Department and Mangalore City Corporation to maintain cleanliness at the various construction sites in order to prevent the spread of the diseases.
Comparing the malaria eradication report of the present and previous year, Khader said that due to the increase in mosquitoes, the communicable diseases have also increased this year.
He also said that the MCC officials have the right to close down the business establishment, if they fails to maintain their respected areas. In this regard, the health department and MCC must work hand in hand to prevent malaria.
There are around 330 under construction buildings in the city and each having 50-60 workers, working for it, but the condition of the area and workers health is not known.
Khader also said that the department will have to create awareness among the people by visiting their houses and check the water tanks in Mangalore and direct them to clean immediately before the arrival of the monsoon, in order to eradicate malaria completely.
MLA JR Lobo stressed the need to maintain cleanliness in city and especially various market places located in the city. He also pointed out the lack of facilities like a public toilet in Jeppu market, which leaves the place dirty.
MLA BA Moidin Bava, said that the Suratkal constituency, do not have proper drainage system, hence it must be immediately provided to prevent making matters worse.
Mayor Mahabala Maarla said that if CREDAI and Health officials conduct a joint inspection at various construction sites, they will find various problems.
Deputy Mayor Kavitha, corporator Shashidhar Hegde, general health secretary Shiva Kumar and others were present.
