Mangalore: Dr. Vijay Prakash, IAS, MCC Commissioner in a press release on Wednesday, abhorred the banners, cut-outs, hanging posters, ad bills, signboards and wall pastings, in the city corporation limits on roads, trees and walls wherever they be, and asked citizens to shun such publicity methods which defile and deface the beauty of a coastal city of high importance, tourism possibilities and marketing prospects in the modern era.
Cheap publicity materials with English (and occasionally Kannada) writings that do not attract any learned person’s attention, nor they educate customers, or inform them well, appear to be an eyesore in market places, posh areas, clean walls and concretized roads, all over the city.
Such unintelligent and misleading publicity materials should be immediately removed from the public eye, so as to beautify the growing city of world opportunities and skilled workers to all common people, the MCC stated in a warning note to mischievous advertisers in city.
There is absolutely no need for cut-outs and posters in English, which a common man does not understand, nor appreciate. Such unauthorized writings in many colours added and inadmissible language, do not serve any purpose, the release pointed out.
There is a dire need to protect the beauty of this coastal city from plastic and other silly creations, or group publicity materials. The 1981 rules on city conservation make violations punishable to anyone who defiles the natural attraction of the port city. Unauthorized banners need prior permission of MCC to put on show. Unwanted publicity materials must be removed quickly to save this city from ugliness, the MCC press note ordered.
