Mangaluru: After the serial accident at Nanthoor Circle recently, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to make alteration works at a cost of Rs 60 lakh.
Speaking about the development work to be taken up, Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo told reporters that the state government had sanctioned Rs 60 lakh for the purpose and work will be undertaken in January.
He said tenders had been invited on December 24 and the work will be taken up on priority. He said the bus stands near the circle will also be upgraded. Appropriate facility will be put in place to make it convenient for passengers to get on and off buses, he added.
On the other hand, city police commissioner T R Suresh said public had raised complaints against the unscientific Nantoor Circle during his phone-in programme.
He said a meeting with the officials from MCC, the National Highways Authority of India and public works department has been convened at his office recently. Apart from Nantoor Circle, work will also be undertaken at the junctions at Karavali Circle, PVS, Balmatta and KPT. According to the commissioner, an agency has been tasked to repair the dysfunctional signal lights at Nantoor Circle.
ACP Traffic Manjunath Bhandary had recently said that a flyover in the area was the need of the hour to resolve traffic issues at Nanthoor.
