Mangalore : Mangalore Mayor Gulzar Banu on August 16, Thursday, inaugurated a helpline service  for the homeless at the Centre for the Homeless located near Sharavu Temple in Mangalore. The helpline has been set up by the Mangalore City Corporation. The helpline number is 18004258515.

MCC Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar who was present on the occasion, said  the helpline would be of great benefit to people  who come to Mangalore in search of jobs but do not have any shelter. It would also help beggars and destitutes, he added.

The helpline, he said has been set up at the directive of the Supreme Court. He said a shelter for homeless is also operating at Urva and another one would come up at Kasba Bengre.
