Mangalore : The Mangalore City Corporation launched a three-day malaria controlling drive in city on September 15, Monday.
Speaking after launching the drive, Mayor Mahabla Marla said that, during the three days drive 11 teams comprising of 71 officials from health, town planning, engineering and revenue departments will visit various construction sites in the city limits for inspection. They will also identify the areas and take measures to destroy the mosquito breeding sites.
He also instructed the officials to take strict action against the builders failing to prevent mosquito breeding in the sites.
The formed teams of officials will be monitored by assistant executive engineers and assistant town planning officers. If any builder or in-charge person in the construction site gives a negligent reply then they have to inform the matter to him or commissioner.
MCC in-Charge Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak said that the officials formed in teams are given a responsibility of visiting 20-30 construction sites in five to seven wards during the drive. Altogather they will visit over 250 construction sites, inspect the building and surroung areas and destroy the mosquito breeding site after identifying it.
The multi-purpose officials in the team will also conduct the blood test on the spot of the construction workers suffering from fever.
The teams have been given with medical kits containing medicines like primaquine, chlorofin and rapid diagnostic test kits.
The builder who fails to initiate measures to control malaria will be issued with a notice and a report will be submitted to the Commissioner about such builders.
