Mangalore : Even in the middle of disturbances, arguments, and walkouts by the BJP corporators, Gulzar Banu, the mayor of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), presented the budget for 2012 – 13 on Friday, March 30.
BJP corporator Shankar Bhat said that the budget session must be postponed until the verdict by the high court is out on the validity of the mayor election. But Mayor ordered R Shantha, the BJP corporator for Panjimogeru to present the budget. The BJP corporators raised objection and there was a quarrel among the corporators and the members in the hall started abusing one another.
The council was then adjourned for ten minutes.
The next session commenced and corporator Shantha said that she would not present the budget since majority in the house was against it. The BJP then walked out of the session. But still the budget was presented.
Mayor said that Rs. 3 crore has been earmarked for the construction of a dam near Thumbe to solve the city’s water problem. The budget also assured to Rs. 25 lakhs to each ward for the repair of roads, footpaths, and drains.
